Mary Jane Florkey, 96, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. A Mass of Christiian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Saturday from 1-2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Medical Care Facility or to the Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Mary Jane was born May 23, 1910 in Blackpool County, England, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Traynor) Woodhead. She married Arthur Florkey in 1937 in Detroit. She was a very intelligent woman and loved reading books. One of her passions was gardening, but her devotion in life was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother. She has lived in Mt. Pleasant since 1992. Other places she resided were Detroit, St. Clair Shores, and Traverse City. Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 70 years, Arthur Florkey of Mt. Pleasant; five daughters, Dolores DiGiacomo of Denver, CO, Beverly (Robert) Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon (George) Shink of Traverse City, Sandra (Martin) Trombley of Mt. Pleasant, and Suzanne (Paul) Ellis of St. Clair Shores; 24 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Kimberly Shink; great-grandson, Elisha Ankerson; and son-in-law, Nick DiGiacomo.
