Mary Lou Smith

Lou Smith, 81, of West Branch passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010 at the Brook Retirement Community in West Branch. There will be a funeral Mass at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch with Father Patrick Maher presiding. The family will greet friends that afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at The Grill, located at the West Branch Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to Seton Cancer Center Institute of West Branch or Hospice of Helping Hands in West Branch. Mary Lou was born July 1, 1929, in West Branch, the daughter of the late Luke and Bertha (Miller) Connors. She married Tom R. Smith Oct. 16, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch. She volunteered for the Ladies Auxiliary in the pre-op area at the West Branch Regional Medical Center for many years. Her favorite pastimes were golfing with family and friends and playing bridge. Mary Lou is survived by her children, Nancy (Gary) Rubinson of Clearwater, FL, Chris (Jeff) Hafer of Mt. Pleaseant, Tom (Carol) Smith of Tucson, AZ and Tim (Donna) Smith of Ann Arbor; three grandsons, Joe Hafer, Jeff Hafer and David Rubinson; and her sister, Virginia Drake of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Tom R. Smith in 2003.
