Mary Jo McEvoy, 81, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, at McLaren Central Michigan. A Funeral Mass for Mary Jo will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 30, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes as celebrant. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with a luncheon concluding at the Comfort Inn Conference Center. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Community Cancer Services. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mary Jo was born December 22, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Frederick E. and Gertrude L. (Porterfield) Wiezork. Her marriage to Edward McEvoy was blessed with five children, Thomas, Timothy, Tarri, Matthew, and Mary Jane. A 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Mary Jo was employed by the City of Mt. Pleasant as secretary to Judge Russell D. Otterbine and later as a dispatcher for the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and Central Michigan University Police Department. Mary Jo was a very social person. She loved to golf in the summer and bowl in the winter, and enjoyed being outdoors. She was very proud to have been inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame. Mary Jo is survived by her five children, Thomas (Kim) McEvoy of Rosebush, Timothy McEvoy (Melissa) of Virginia Beach, VA, Tarri McEvoy of Durango, CO, Matthew McEvoy (Cassandra) of Orlando, FL, and Mary Jane McEvoy; three grandchildren, Madelyne McEvoy, Oakley Mogg, and Tru McEvoy; sister, Nancy Harrison of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and close friends, Rosemary Saunders and Michel Grace, both of Mt. Pleasant. She was preceded in death by her parents; and half-brother, Jack Courter.
