Mary L. Pety, 58, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, July 21, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne and Pastor Joe Wentworth co-officiating. Cremation will take place following the mass. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 1-5 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. when family and friends will have the opportunity to share memories of Mary. Visitation continues at the church on Monday from 1-2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Michigan, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, or Central Assembly of God in Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Mary was born Dec. 22, 1947, in Manistee, Michigan, the daughter of Anthony M. and Leona M. (Moscicki) Slawinski. She married Eugene M. Pety on Aug. 16, 1969 in Manistee, Michigan. After short careers in teaching, banking and real estate, she settled into her passions in life of being a stay at home wife and mother, spreading the word of God and volunteering. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, cooking, gardening and traveling to see her grandson. She was a proud member of Aglow International and the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She will always be remembered by her family and friends as being blessed and highly favored . Mary is survived by her loving husband of over 36 years, Gene; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole M. and Dennis Goughnour of Henderson, NV; son, Matthew M. Pety of Mt. Pleasant; grandson, Trey D. Goughnour of Henderson, NV; her father and step-mother, Anthony and Sarah Slawinski of Manistee, Michigan; her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Pat Slawinski of Palmer, Michigan; her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Ed Oleniczak of Lansing, Michigan; her sister and brother-in-law, Vicki and Steve Dice of Grand Rapids; 32 nephews and nieces and 33 grand nephews and grand nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother.
