Mary Ann Simpson, a cherished member of her community and beloved matriarch, passed away on June 11, 2026, at Royal View Assisted Living, in Mecosta, Michigan. Born Mary Ann Chase on December 23, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and unwavering faith.
A 1949 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School, Mary Ann dedicated many years of her life serving as a secretary for the First United Methodist Church, an institution close to her heart. Her involvement with the church was among her proudest accomplishments, reflecting her deep Christian values and commitment to service. She was also a valued member of the General Federation Women’s Club (GFWC) and 4H, organizations where she made significant contributions. Recognized for her dedication and talent, Mary Ann received a certificate from the House of Representatives honoring her work with the GFWC and her exquisite needlework was recognized nationally.
On February 1, 1952, Mary Ann married Phillip Simpson in Washtenaw County, beginning a partnership grounded in love and companionship. Together, they raised three daughters, Jessica, Susan and Catherine. Mary Ann was a loving mother, setting an enduring example of compassion and faith for her children and family.
Mary Ann leaves behind her children; Jessica Cooper of Escanaba; Susan (Bruce) Dehn of Mt. Pleasant; and Catherine (Marshall Rader) Flegel of Steep Falls, ME. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Derek (Crystal) Dehn of Maplewood, MN; John Cooper of Michigan; and Lucas (Jamie) Dehn of Endicott, NY; great-grandchildren Sawyer, Elizabeth, Isaac Dehn of Maplewood, MN, Nora, and James Dehn of Endicott, NY.
Mary Ann’s love for nature was a central joy in her life. Family vacations were often spent camping and swimming throughout Michigan, creating treasured memories. She was happiest surrounded by family at gatherings, where her warmth and kindness shone brightest. A passionate knitter, Mary Ann devoted much time to needlework and cross stitch, crafts that mirrored her patient and caring nature.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, Solomon Chase; mother and stepfather, Helen and William Reed; husband Phillip Simpson; brother Nelson Chase; stepbrother Richard Reed; and grandson; Joshua Cooper. Though she leaves behind those who loved her dearly, her example of faith, love, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Mary Ann Simpson’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, faith, and family. She will be remembered with deep respect and affection by her family, friends, and the community she served so well. Her legacy endures in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
