Mary Ann Wakeman

Mary Ann Wakeman, 69, of Alma, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018, at her home. Mary Ann was born September 17, 1948, in Petoskey, daughter of the late Ronald James and Rheta Belle (North) Wakeman Sr. A short time after graduating from St. Francis Xavier High School, Petoskey, in 1966, Mary Ann moved to Mt. Pleasant. She was employed by Community Mental Health for Central Michigan for 28 years, retiring in 2012. Some of her favorite pastimes were crafting, gardening, and baking. Wherever Mary Ann lived and worshipped, she was generous with her time and talents. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Candice (Mark) Lee of Alma; her granddaughter, Madelyn Lee; her sister, Catherine (Kevin) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant; sister-in-law, Maggie Wakeman of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lyman Wakeman and Ronald Wakeman Jr. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service for Mary Ann will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 18, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Freed officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
