Mary Ann Wawersik, 79, of Beal City, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024, at home with her family by her side. Mary Ann was born December 24, 1944, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of the late Vernon and Irene (Strouse) Wilson. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1963. After returning from her first year of college in Bowling Green, OH, Mary Ann returned home where she met the love of her life, Dale Wawersik. After a courtship, the couple tied the knot on May 29, 1965, in a ceremony at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Ken, Kristy, and Karen. While her children were young, Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom. In 1991 she took a job at Milliken's Department Store. That was followed by a job at El-Bee Shoes as the store manager. She retired from JC Penny in 2013. Mary Ann enjoyed music, trips to the Michigan's Upper Peninsula, baking, and word searches. More than anything, she loved and adored her family, all who will miss her dearly. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dale; children, Ken (Amy) Wawersik of Shepherd, Kristy Wawersik of Spring Lake, and Karen (David) Miles of Beal City; grandchildren, Andrew Wawersik (and fiancée, Jordan Beemer), Lindsay Wawersik, David Miles, and Hunter Miles; great granddaughter, Emberly Miles; siblings, James Wilson and Linda Strong, both of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Wilson and Irene Johnson; brother, John Wilson; and parents in-law, Joseph and Angeline Wawersik. A service honoring Mary Ann's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Following the service, all are invited to a luncheon in Lincoln Reception Center (attached to the funeral home). Mary Ann will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Central Michigan. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The family gives a special thanks to nurses Tina, Wendy, and Theressa, and the entire nursing staff at Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care that was given to Mary Ann.
