Matthew Byers, 57, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2024, in Midland. Matthew was born on September 13, 1967, in Alma, son of the late Lawrence Byers and Adena Tubbs. Matthew was very involved with his community. He worked for MMI with the recycling crew for over 20 years. Wherever there was a hand that was needed in his community, Matthew was there to lend his hand. Matthew participated in Special Olympics region seven year-round. He engaged in every sport available. Recently leading his softball team, as catcher, to a gold medal. Receiving a team honor for this achievement from the Detroit Tigers. Matthew enjoyed to fish, camp, bowl and music concerts. Most of all, he loved his family. They were everything to him. He will be missed by so many. Matthew is survived by his six siblings, Lola (Ed) Waldron of Cedar Springs, MI, Tammy Reynolds of Mt. Pleasant, Teresa (Bill) Fetters of Wheeler, Heidi (Jeremy) Wood of Middleburg, FL, Tim Byers of Alma, and Robin (Greg) Wing of Vestaburg; 15 nieces and nephews; 23 great nieces and nephews; and special friend and mentor, Lou Lennox. He is preceded in death by both parents; niece, Devon Wood; and nephew, Robert Lopez-Boshaw. Family will receive friends on Friday, October 4, 2024, for a funeral service at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home at 11am in Mt. Pleasant, with Roger Day officiating. A luncheon will follow in Lincoln Reception Center. (located next to funeral home) Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. He will be laid to rest in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, next to his mother, Adena Tubbs.
