Matthew Charles Casey, of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, passed away unexpectantly at his home, on April 26, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on April 3, 1968, in Saginaw, Michigan, he was the youngest child of Kenneth R. Casey Sr. and Mary Sue (Brown) Casey.
Matthew was a loving father to daughter Meghan Casey of Midland, MI and son Logan Casey of St. Ignace, MI, and a proud grandfather to DJ Johnson. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Perry) Schaffner of Prescott, MI; brothers Kenneth (Patti) Casey Jr. of Mount Pleasant, MI, and Christopher (Linda) Casey of Prescott, MI, sister-in-law Elizabeth Casey of Saginaw, MI, several cherished nieces and nephews, and his beloved cat, Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herbert Casey.
Matt had a deep love for Northern Michigan, having spent much of his childhood summer vacations at Skidway Lake, before moving there with his family as a teenager. He attended Whittemore-Prescott Schools and worked alongside his parents and brother Chris at their restaurant, Casey's Fine Dining. His experience in restaurant work led him to spend a few summers working and living on beautiful Mackinac Island, before eventually settling in the Upper Peninsula, where he spent much of his adult life.
Matthew found joy in music, especially 1980s rock, and had a special love for playing the guitar. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He treasured every moment spent with his children, grandson and extended family. Known for his kindness, humor, and quirky charm, Matt touched the lives of many and will be remembered fondly and deeply missed by those who loved him.
A man of faith, he firmly believed that the Lord was coming soon, and He did come, for Matthew. May he rest in peace.
According to Matt's wishes, cremation has taken place. His family wishes loved ones to remember his life and honor his memory in the way he would have wanted: with stories and laughter. A memorial for Matthew will take place at a future date.
