Max Gaudard, 85, of Suttons Bay and formerly of Mt. Pleasant died Saturday, November 3, 2001 at his son's home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 3 p.m. Monday, November 5, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the church on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday from 2-3 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or to Munson Hospice of Traverse City. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Lux Funeral Home. Max was born December 15, 1915, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of William and Mary ''Maime'' (Carey) Gaudard, and step-son of Ralph Powell. He married Jean W. Rorison on August 13, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant. He spent the majority of his life in Mt. Pleasant, graduating from Sacred Heart Academy. In 1997 he moved to Suttons Bay. He served in the Merchant Marines and worked for Fabiano Brothers and Kenny Wholesale. He was a lifelong member of the Elks, the Knights of Columbus and the Moose Lodge No. 195 in Mt. Pleasant. Max is survived by his son Patrick (Marjorie) Gaudard of Suttons Bay; niece, Sally (David) Koons of Battle Creek; two sisters, Margaret Jackson and Betty (Charlie) Johnson, both of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Jerry (June) Powell and Jim Powell, both of Mt. Pleasant; a sister-in-law, Jean Powell of Tavares, FL; three grandsons, Gregory (Renee) Gaudard, Geoffrey (Danielle) Gaudard, and Gary (Chris) Gaudard; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; and brother, Tom Powell.
