Maynard "Punky" L. Young

Maynard L. Young, 60, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, November 2, at Lux Funeral Home with Dr. Stephen Shugert officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association of Michigan or to Disabled American Veterans. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Maynard was born January 20, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Justin and Vera (Myers) Young. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1959. He then enlisted in the Army, serving from 1960-1962. He returned to Mt. Pleasant and received his Biology Degree from CMU. He later received his Nursing Degree from Delta College in 1971. Maynard was employed by the Soaring Eagle Casino. Prior to that he was the floor supervisor at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility. His medical career started, though, as a Registered Nurse at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Punky enjoyed golfing, baseball and fishing. He is survived by four children, Heidi Young, Melissa (John) Best and Brian (Sarah) Young, all of Mt. Pleasant and Aaron Young of Rosebush; three grandchildren, Andrew and Isabel Best and Daniel Young; one brother, Donald (Jo) Young of Carmichael, CA; two sisters, Justine (Jack) Michells of Harrison and Margaret ''Midge'' Baker of Portland, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Richard Young.
