Michael David Campbell, 71, of Shepherd, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026, at home with his family by his side.

He was born March 1, 1955, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. His parents, Joseph Arden and Patricia Rose (Fitzgerald) Campbell, had seven children: Joseph, William, Michael, Thomas, Timothy, Catherine, and Kevin.

He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1973, and on July 30, 1976, he married Sheila Marie Kornexl at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Sheila; children, Steven (Amy) Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, Maureen (Eric) Karbowski of Mt. Pleasant, and Aaron (Katelyn) Campbell of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Keegan Ouillette and Tucker Campbell, Grady Karbowski and Chase Karbowski, and Hunter Campbell and Colt Campbell; siblings, Thomas (Kathy) Campbell, Timothy (Tammy) Campbell, Catherine Campbell, and Kevin (Lisa) Campbell; sister-in-law, Deb Campbell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph and William Campbell; and sister-in-law, Susan Campbell.

Mike took pride in his country roots and loved the farm life growing up. He continued farming as an adult and always had a tractor or tool needed to help.

Mike could fix anything and was everyone’s first call if a household appliance was broken or a car was making a weird noise.

Mike always had a special interest in aviation and American war history, sparked by his dad’s role as a pilot for the United States Army Air Corps. So much so, that he went on to earn his personal pilot's license.

Mike took joy in the simple pleasures of spending time with family, hosting deer camp, and attending his kids' and grandkids' sporting events. A Coke or a hot coffee and some chocolate made him happy.

Mike was a devoted husband. He and Sheila would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in July of this year.

Above all, Mike was a family man. He was devoted, loving, and selfless in everything he did. Mike shined as a father, which continued on into his proudest role of grandpa. He adored his grandchildren, and they will always remember him through pictures, stories, and special memories shared with grandpa.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass for Michael will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Irishtown. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the Mass. Rite of Committal will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery immediately following.

Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family.
