Michael Joseph Martin, aged 54, of Waters and formerly of Beal City, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at his home. Born on May 10, 1971, in Addison, Michigan, he was the beloved son of Timothy and Joyce (Gilmore) Martin and the youngest of four children.
Michael attended Beal City Public Schools through the seventh grade and graduated from Crawford Ausable High School in 1989. He pursued a career in the oil and gas industry in North Dakota, where he was known for his dedication and hard work.
Michael was a man who truly cherished his family. He found joy in the simple moments spent together, whether it was sitting around a campfire, casting fishing lines, or simply enjoying time with those he loved the most. The outdoors brought him peace, and some of his happiest memories were made fishing with his wife. He was incredibly proud of his son, Nickolas, and the dedication and hard work he has shown serving in the U.S. Air Force. Michael spoke often of that pride and admiration.
He will be remembered for his love of family, his loyalty, and the quiet strength he carried through life. His presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him, and his memories will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Though he is gone too soon, the love he gave and the memories he created will remain with his family forever.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Nickcole Martin; his son, Nickolas (Bella) Martin; his daughter-of-choice, Samantha Ferris of Gaylord; his parents, Tim and Joyce Martin of Beal City; his brother, William Martin of Beal City; his mother-in-law, Barb Urie of Grayling; his brothers-in-law, Tim (Carrie) O'Toole, Jason (Jessica) O'Toole, Denny (Donna) O'Toole; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father-in-law, Dennis O'Toole, his infant brother, Timothy Martin, and his sister, Lisa Favera.
A Funeral Mass for Michael will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 13, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City. Father Andy LaFramboise will preside. Rite of Committal will be in St. Joseph Cemetery concluding with a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beal City. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Martin Family.
