Michael James McEvoy Jr., 76, of Houston, TX and formerly of Michigan died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004 at his home. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal services are planned. Mike was born May 17, 1928, in Kittanning, PA, the son of Michael James and Anna Regina (Liebler) McEvoy I. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp where he played semi-pro football. He later graduated from Central Michigan University with his teaching degree and also his varsity letter in football. He returned to Sacred Heart Academy to coach its football team in the early 1950's. He then taught at Grand Rapids Catholic Central where he also served as a football and golf coach under Ted Sowle. He worked for several companies throughout his career including, Franklin Supply in Mt. Pleasant, Grayville, IL, and Farmington, NM, and Iverson Supply of Houston, TX. He retired as president of the casing department at L.B. Foster Steel Mill in Houston. Mike is survived by two children, Michelle McEvoy of Alachua, Fla. And Michael James McEvoy III of Houston; three brothers, Ed (Jean) McEvoy of Oldsmar, Fla., Tom (Juyne) McEvoy of Mt. Pleasant, and Bob (Lucy) McEvoy of Miami, Fla.; and one sister, Jeanne (Al) Perkins of Buena Vista, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Becky (Lucas) McEvoy; three sisters, Mary Ann McEvoy, Betty McEvoy, and Sarah Jane McEvoy; and one brother, Richard McEvoy.
