Michael Steven Mchugh

Michael McHugh, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, formally of Weidman, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Crestwood Assisted Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.  Michael was born on February 14, 1926, in Big Rapids, Michigan, son of the late Michael and Velma (Gillmer) McHugh.  He graduated from Edmore High School in 1943 and then enlisted in the United States Army.  Mike served for two years and, after his honorable discharge, returned home to continue his education. He would earn a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Ferris State College and later earn a Master of Art from Michigan State University.  Mike married the love of his life, Barbara Harkness, on June 26, 1948, in Big Rapids and together they raised three amazing men.  Mike started his teaching career in the Weidman Community Schools and then moved to the Pinconning School District and eventually retired from Chippewa Hills School District.   He and Barb enjoyed camping and fly fishing.   Their trips would start in April and end in October.  Among their favorite spots was the Indian Bridge Campground.  They also liked to spend time at their cabin on the Pine River.    One of Mike's hobbies was to tie the flys for their fishing trips.  Mike is survived by his sons, Mike (Doris) McHugh of Remus, Pat (Debra) McHugh of Coral Springs, FL and Tom (Debra) McHugh of Cadillac; grandchildren, Mike (Rochelle) McHugh, Jason (Jessica) McHugh, Kristoffer (Jodi) McHugh, Ryan (Sheelah) McHugh, Chad (Alissa) McHugh; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Adeline Camp, Betty Mills, Ruth (Dick) Conklin, Shirley Inbody and Sharon (Dwight) Dargitz.  Mike was preceded in death by both parents; and brother, Dick McHugh.   Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled.
