Michael (Mike) Jeffery Oleniacz, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and esteemed servant of his country and community, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2024 at the age of 75. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, honor, and unwavering dedication.
Born October 12, 1948, Mike embodied the values of duty and service from an early age. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps straight out of high school, where he bravely served his country with distinction for two tours in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, Mike continued his commitment to public service by joining the ranks of the City of Detroit Police Department.
Beyond his distinguished career in law enforcement and the military, Mike was a loyal family man. He cherished nothing more than spending time with his loved ones, imparting upon them the values of his deep faith, willfulness, and responsibility. As a father, he was a pillar of strength and guidance, always ready to offer a helping hand wherever needed. With the highest priority, he fully embraced the concept of creating lasting memories with his grandchildren, imparting his faith and sharing his unconditional love. Mike's greatest pride was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Keith (Jan) Oleniacz, Sisters Phyllis Oleniacz and Kathy (Christopher) Coakley.
In his spare time, Mike enjoyed outdoor adventures, spending time with his family, and keeping up with current events. His infectious smile and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mike is survived by his devoted children Karen Oleniacz-Keller (Eric) Keller and Nicole (Sean) Peterson; his partner Cheryl Schoenherr; his adoring grandchildren Kodie, Kohl,
Kinleigh, Kade, Ellis, Sean Michael, Hayden, Joslyn, and Marina; and his great grandchildren Lacey, Lilianna, and Lakelynn who all knew and loved him as their "Ginka".
Though he may be gone from our sight, Mike's legacy of bravery, selflessness, and unwavering love will continue to inspire us all. May God welcome you home now.
Rest in peace, Mike/Dad/Ginka. Your watch may be over, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of us forever. We love you whole whole bunches, always and forever.
