Michael Wesley Yount

Michael Wesley Yount of Mt Pleasant has died unexpectedly.  He had been receiving care for cardiovascular disease and diabetes.  He was 64 years old. Michael was born Sunday, September 16, 1957, in Tawas City, Michigan.  His father was in the military at the time and was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda.  As is typical with members of the military, the family moved often.  From northern Michigan the family moved to Izmir, Turkey and then next to Hampton, VA, Columbus, OH and Fort Worth, TX. These were the early days of the interstate highway system (decades before smartphones) and Mike proved to be highly adept @ map reading.  After the family returned from overseas and the family drove from the airport in NYC, his mother was trying to multitask, map reading and caring for a sick child. Mike took over the map reading and successfully guided his sleep deprived father from LaGuardia to the Jersey Turnpike.  Mad skills for a 9-year-old.  From that point on, Mike was the family navigator. His father's military retirement brought the family back to Michigan.  Michael graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1975.  He worked on the printing press for the Morning Sun newspaper for 29 years. Mike had an incredible ability to remember dates, information.  He was a sports fan and could recall a vast amount of history and trivia.  Michael was also a big fan of early rock and roll, having collected some of the most obscure 45 records from the late 1950's, early 1960's. He enjoyed spending time with his family.  He never missed a family reunion, wedding, visitation, or funeral if he could possibly attend. Michael was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church, Mt Pleasant.  He was a kind and decent man and will be greatly missed. Michael is survived by his sister, Diana Yount of E. Lansing; nieces, Allison Yount, Megan Yount both of Lansing, Sonya Kayan of Tx, Amber Watkins (Travis) of Owosso, Crystal Yount of Swartz Creek and Amanda Hougan of Swartz Creek; nephew, Ryan Welsh (Sandy) of New Brighton,MN.; three great nieces and three great nephews;  sister-in-law, Charlene Yount of Lansing. Also surviving Michael are Aunts, Edna Kennedy (Midland), Susan (Thom) Marshall (Sanford), Bobbie McCollough (Citrus Heights, CA), Lorraine Yount (Fairfield, CA), Judy Cain (Warsaw, IN), uncles,  Arthur Pfund (Bay City), Junior Lutz (Bay City). Mike also has many, many cousins that survive him. Preceding Michael in death are both parents, Eunice and Charles R. Yount Sr.; brothers, John C Yount, Joseph A Yount, and Charles R Yount Jr.; sister-in-law, Christine (Sheehan)Yount. The family wishes to thank Reverend Jonathan Bakker, the many trustees, and members of the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church who so kindly supported Michael.  A memorial service for Michael will be held Wednesday, March 16 @ Zion Lutheran Church, 3401 E River Rd, Mt Pleasant, Mi 48858 Visitation 10:00 am,  Service    11:00 am.  A Luncheon will follow the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Zion Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association.
