Millicent Jean Rochefort, 83, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Grand Marais, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Fountain of Love Assisted Living in Rosebush. She was born May 6, 1936, in Grand Marais, daughter of the late Edward and Meleda (Deloria) Roberts. At the young age of 15, while working at the Cozy Corner in Grand Marais, Jean met a handsome man named Eli Rochefort, whom she considered the love of her life. After graduating from Burt Township High School in 1954, she and Eli were married on September 20, 1955, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Jean was employed as a secretary at Holy Rosary Parish for many years. She had also been a secretary for Burt Township High School and a secretary for an accounting firm in the Detroit area for 17 years. She enjoyed painting, riding in the woods with Eli, camping, fishing, bike riding, music, and most of all spending time with her family. Jean is survived by her stepson, Donald (Dorothy) Rochefort of Cooks; two daughters, Cheryl Hunter (Cameron) of Newberry and Rebecca (Craig) Lobsinger of Mt. Pleasant; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four siblings, Jack Roberts, Judy (Brody) Block, and Carol Miller, all of Grand Marais, and Joy (Kirk) Radtke of Sault Ste. Marie; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eli in 2014; half-brother, Joseph Roberts; stepdaughter, Sue Short; and brother in-law, Dick Miller. A Funeral Mass for Jean will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, February 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Marais with Father Marty Flynn as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary Church.
