Minnie Marie O'Brien, age 98, of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, November 2, 2001 at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, at Sacred Heart Church with Father Robert Byrne officiating. Burial will be in St. Leo Cemetery in Winn. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. and on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. There will be a vigil service at 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Minnie was born August 15, 1903, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Mason and Mary (Tatu) Hobbs. She married Edmund O'Brien November 29, 1924 at Sacred Heart Church. She was a life-time resident of the Mt. Pleasant area. She attended school at Mt. Pleasant High School and graduated from Central Michigan Normal in 1923 with a teaching certificate. She taught at a rural school on County Line Rd. for one year. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish most of her life. She was also a member of St. Leo Parish in Winn from 1961-1989 at which time she moved to Winchester Towers. At St. Leo's she was very active in Christian Services and the Altar Society and also served as a eucharistic minister. She has been a member of Farm Bureau since 1945. Minnie is survived by five sons, James (Martha) of Mt. Pleasant, Bill (Renee) of Midland, Pat (Kay) of Vermontville, Jerry (Janice) of Grand Ledge and John of Alma; five daughters, Mary Donna Graham of Kalamazoo, Lois (George) Goulet of Lakeview, Theresa (Joe) Gross of Lansing, Barbara Ley of Grand Rapids, and Susan (Eloy) Soto of Elwell; a son-in-law, Leo Voisin of South Milwaukee, WI; one daughter-in-law, Rose O'Brien of Mt. Pleasant; 64 grandchildren; 142 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund in 1974; two sons, Martin and Michael; one daughter, Jean Voisin; three granddaughters, Vicky O'Brien, Therese Ann O'Brien, and Kelly O'Brien; one brother, Edward Hobbs; two sisters, Stella Vaughn and Emma Betz; one daughter-in-law, Ony O'Brien; and three great grandchildren.
