Monica Lucille Barrett, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Medilodge in Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass for Monica will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, October 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fred Kawka as celebrant. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery with a luncheon following at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 4 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Monday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen where she was a board member and volunteer for many years. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Monica was born February 19, 1924, in Wise Township of Isabella County, Michigan, daughter of the late Anthony Mathias and Clara Madeline (Little) Dole. A member of the 1942 graduating class at Sacred Heart Academy, Monica married Clarence Franklin Barrett on February 19, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant. Some of Monicas favorite pastimes included crafts with her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and volunteering in the community. She was the recipient of several awards including United Way Volunteer of the Week in 1999, Gleaner Outstanding Service Award in 2000, and the United Way Volunteer of the Year Award in 2014. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and was awarded Grandmother of the Year in 2011. Monica was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and was past president of Local Winnebago Chapter. Monica is survived by four children, Chris (Vicki) Barrett of Caldwell, TX, Frank (Brenda) Barrett of Lansing, Lori Wilkins of Midland, and Robin (Joe) Butcher of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren, Kelli (Daniel) Ringler, Christopher (Jessica) Barrett, Jessica (Kurt) Bruske, Brandon Schafer (Elon Brissette), Ben Wilkins, Caitlin Barrett (Patrick Sheufelt) Josh Schafer, Alissa Barrett, Jeremy (Lacy) Schafer, and Pa'ge Sowmick; five great grandchildren, Lily, Madailein, Lily, Carter, and Brody; two sisters in-law, Elaine Dole and Blanche Dole; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; infant son, Anthony Barrett; five brothers, Bill, Bernard, Leo, Don, Stan; and sister, Margaret Granger.
