Norbert Kenneth Miller, Jr., 74, of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 with his beloved wife Susan by his side. His death was unexpected, caused by a devastating hemorrhagic stroke. He spent his last day playing in the pool with Susan and his granddaughters, as he would have wanted. Norbert was a larger than life loving presence in this world, with a constant kind word and a book in his hand. He will be very greatly missed. Norbert was born May 12, 1944, in Cass City, Michigan, son of the late Norbert and Elizabeth (Ross) Miller. He graduated from Edmore High School in 1962. At Central Michigan University he earned a BS in Biology and a teaching certificate. He was an outstanding CMU football player and played both ways receiving first-team honors. He was also a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the campus ROTC. He began teaching at Montabella schools and then in 1968 joined the Army and served as an officer in Vietnam. After his return he taught at Montabella High School and coached football for 35 years. He loved spending time with family, golfing and reading. Norbert is survived by his wife Susan; children, son Chris of Phoenix, AZ, daughter Allison (Steve Shoults) of Killeen, TX, Sarah (Larry) Kallio of Grand Haven, and Pete (Andrea) Shepherd of Midland; granddaughters, Lexie Kallio, Ella Kallio, Viviana Shepherd, Rosalie Shepherd, and Eliza Shoults; sister Suzanne (David) Wurzer of Carlsbad, CA and their sons Joe and John. Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; close family members and several good golf, teaching and football buddies. A Funeral Mass for Norbert will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. until the Mass begins. A luncheon will follow at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norbert K. Miller Granddaughter Education Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Honor Norb by playing a round of golf, cheering on a CMU sporting event, giving a strong handshake or letting someone know that theyve done a good job.
