Norman George Burmeister

Norman G. Burmeister, 88, of Remus, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at home with his wife and brother-in-law, Lee, by his side. Norm was born January 20, 1934, in Sebewaing, Michigan, son of the late George and Esther (Volz) Burmeister. Norm proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy and reserves.  He had two sons, Kurt and Ned, from his first marriage.  On June 21, 1975, Norm married Patricia Welgs in Pittsburgh, PA.  Together they operated Brannigan's Ltd. (an equipment leasing company) for over 25 years. An NRA instructor, Norm also started "The Training Team", to teach an NRA gun safety class to those wishing to obtain a CPL.  He later joined his wife as a Realtor.  He was a member of the board of the Isabella County Sportsman's Club and was also on the Morning Sun Editorial Board.  The awards received over the years were many for his services to causes he believed in, but Norm needed no accolades.  He just did what he believed to be right.  Norm loved the outdoors and his home on Woodruff Lake which he called his Paradise.  He was a private pilot, a sailor, and a marksman.  A compassionate and exceptionally thoughtful man, Norm will be missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves behind his loving wife of nearly 47 years, Patricia Welgs; grandson, Ned G. Burmeister Jr. of Florida; brother in-law, Lee Welgs of Remus; sister in-law, Cathy (Jim) Cook of Texas; sister-in-law, Roberta Burmeister of Florida and several nieces and nephews throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kurt and Ned; brother, Clare and Franny Welgs, his sister-in-law whom he lovingly took care of for seven years.  Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass for Norm will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, June 17, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Shepherd with Father Fred Kawka as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. A luncheon will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Weavers of St. Mary's, 2020 S. Mission Rd., Ste 404, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858 or St. Vincent de Paul Church.   Envelopes for contributions will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
