Opal P. Smith, 83, of Mt. Pleasant died Tuesday, November 5, 2002 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 8, at Lux Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Friday from noon until the service begins. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Opal was born November 15, 1918, in Union Town, West Virginia, the daughter of Howard and Goldie (Cooper) Carrol. She married Charles Smith. She enjoyed watching television and spending time with her family. Opal is survived by five children, Jim (Carren) Smith of Lansing, Robert (Marie) Smith of Weidman, Carolyn Sue Smith-Roberts of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Kenneth (Barb) Smith of Lake Station, and Raymond Smith of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Smith; and a brother.
