Patrick Michael Doyle, 58, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at his home Sat., June 29, 2002 after a valiant 35-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2002 Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert H. Byrne officiating. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Mr. Doyle was born May 17, 1944 in Bay City, Michigan, the son of Patrick and Irene (LaMere) Doyle. He married Mary Jo Allman Sept. 25, 1965 at St. Joseph Church in Bay City. After graduating as a National Merit Scholar semifinalist and president of his class at Bay City Central High School, Mr. Doyle attended the University of Michigan, where he obtained a degree in architecture in 1967. He worked as an architect for Wakely Kushner in Mt. Pleasant from 1972 to 1974, as Director of Community Affairs for the City of Mt. Pleasant from 1975 to 1976 and as manager of Dial-A-Ride, Mt. Pleasants public busing system from 1976 to 1977. He traveled to Washington, DC as a representative to the White House Conference on the Handicapped in the mid 1970s and was named Father of the Year by the Saginaw Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in 1975. Mr. Doyle and his wife strengthened their marriage in the Marriage Encounter program and the two served as mentors to engaged couples in the Pre Cana Couple to Couple program. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish, through which he participated in the Befrienders ministry, and tutored students in reading at Sacred Heart Academy. Mr. Doyle was proud to be an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Doyle enjoyed writing poems, stories and essays and wrote columns for the Isabella County Herald. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his devoted wife Mary Jo; his son, Michael (Kristin) Doyle of Lansing; his daughter, Beth (Jim) Glascock of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren: Kyla Glascock and Megan and Connor Doyle; his brother, Dr. Phillip (Mary Ann) Doyle of Schoolcraft; and his sister, Mary Jo (Stuart) Framke of Bay City; his father-in-law Gordon Allman; sisters-in-law Margaret (Terry) Van Sumeren of Bay City; Barb (Bob) Gradowski of Bay City and Ann (Jan) Pitzer of Brighton; brothers-in-law David Allman of Luling, Louisiana; and Jeffrey Allman of Bay City; several nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick E. Doyle and his mother-in-law Millicent J. Allman. He will be remembered and missed for his day-to-day courage; his irrepressible sense of humor; his kind and gentle heart; his unconditional love for his wife, family and friends; and his Christian example to all.
