Patrick Quillen, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at The Laurels in Mt. Pleasant. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Denis Heames presiding. The family will receive friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 8 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodland Hospice or the Isabella County Soup Kitchen. Pat was born Jan. 20, 1919, in Isabella County, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Pohl) Quillen. He married Hedwig Hedy Neyer on Nov. 29, 1947, at St. Mary of the Lake in Chicago, IL. He attended Sacred Heart Academy and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa, Sicily, France, and Germany. During that time he was involved in eight campaigns during which he received a bronze star. He was employed by Ferro Manufacturing, hauled milk for Bordens, dairy farmed, and then worked in the oil industry from 1955 until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and enjoyed gardening and farming. Pat is survived by his wife, Hedy of Mt. Pleasant; eleven children, Carol Quillen of Hamilton, Michael Quillen of Mecosta, Connie (Jerry) Miller of Martinez, CA, Mark Quillen of Union City, CA, Barbara Crandall of Beal City, Deborah (Marty) Predmesky of Beal City, Elizabeth (John) Judge of Winn, Daniel (Jennifer) Quillen of Hastings, Brian Quillen of St. Johns, Heidi Quillen of Mt. Pleasant, and Julie (Phil) Gross of Beal City; 22 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Quillen of Fowler and John Quillen of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Marilyn Quillen and Viola Sheahan, both of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Martin Quillen; and five sisters, Stella Parker, Colleen Spencer, Agnes Evans, Rose Ellen DeShane, and Mildred Quillen.
