Peter Ellis, 89, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 at Gratiot Medical Center in Alma. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Father Tom Held officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors followed by a luncheon at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. and on Monday one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Peter was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Marquette, son of the late Peter James and Lempi (Wieedman) Ellis. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 during World War II. On Sept. 1, 1951 he married Anna St. James in Au Train, MI. From 1952-1957 Peter worked for a railroad company in Au Train on a Putt-Putt Car. He moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1959 and began working for the Mt. Pleasant Center. He retired as a nurse attendant in 1984. Some of his favorite pastimes were playing the guitar and singing, walking, and stamp collecting. Peter is survived by four children, Dave (Kathy) Ellis of The Villages, FL, Bette (Chris) Yost of Alma, Joe Pete (Linda) Ellis of Marquette, and Bonnie (Tom) ONeil of Marquette; several grandchildren including Tracie (Rolan) Garcia and Gary Ellis; several great-grandchildren including Braeden Garcia and Ashton and Carmen Ellis; two sisters, Rose Moules of Escanaba and Elaine (Dan) Champion of Wyoming; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna in 1997; and brother, Einer Ellis.
