Philip Edward Block

Philip Block, 56, of Beal City passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023, at McLaren Central Michigan.  Phil was born on September 18, 1967, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Lionel and Marion (Verleger) Block.  He graduated from Beal City High School with the class of 1986. Phil worked on the family Dairy Farm in Beal City, until retiring in 2018.  Shortly before retirement he found the love of his life, Amy Brickner and they were married on August 9, 2013, in Mt. Pleasant.  Phil had a passion for youth sports, he spent many hours mentoring young athletes.  Phil was known for his resounding voice on the softball field.  He umpired hundreds of games in the Central Michigan area. Phil was recently hired as the Varsity Girls Softball Coach in Vestaburg in 2021. Phil was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed fishing. He was always up for a competitive game of euchre.  Phil was kind to all and treated everyone like a member of his family.  He will be greatly missed by so many.  Phil is survived by his wife, Amy of Beal City; children, Megan (Brendan) Yonke of Denver, CO., Mandy (Jamie Danna) Block of White Lake, Josh Block of Beal City and Jamie (Nate Helman) Block of Alma; grandchildren; Thomas, Brinlee, Harley and Marion; step children, Ryan Byrne of Mt. Pleasant and Kat Byrne of Mt. Pleasant; adopted daughter, Sina; siblings, Christy (Jim) Shock of Lake Isabella, Peggy (Dan) Methner of Remus, Sherry (Chris) Gruss of Beal City, Sandy (Mike) Yuncker of Beal City, Tammy (Steve) Aldrich of Riverdale,  Steve (Lori) Block of Alma, and Tim (Buffy) Block of St. Louis.  He is preceded in death by both parents; siblings, Yvonne Monk and Cindy Parker.  A celebration of life will be held at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:30 am.  Family will receive friends at 10:00am prior to service.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Vestaburg Softball program or other youth sports.
