Phillip Wayne Simpson

Phillip Wayne Simpson, 90, formally of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Royal View Senior Living in Mecosta.  Phillip was born on February 17, 1933, in Marion Kentucky, son of the late Hughie and Nellie (Sarlls) Simpson.  Phillip married Mary Ann Chase on February 1, 1952, in Washtenaw County, MI.  He served two years in the United States Army Reserve Artillery. After his honorable discharge, he and Mary Ann moved to Mt. Pleasant to raise their three daughters, Jessica, Susan, and Catherine. He worked at the Bordon Creamery, Leonard and Alma Refineries, and Total Pipeline. After retirement Phillip continued to pursue his love of nature. He was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who loved ornithology and conservation. He enjoyed improving his 40-acres of undeveloped land in Blanchard for wildlife by planting trees and food crops. Phillip remained an avid reader all his life, and a passionate defender of liberty. As a devoted family man, he is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Ann (Chase), daughters, Jessica Cooper of Escanaba, Susan (Bruce) Dehn of Mt Pleasant, and Catherine (Marshall Rader) Flegel of Maine; grandchildren, Derek (Crystal) Dehn, John Cooper, and Lucas (Jamie) Dehn; great grandchildren, Sawyer, Elizabeth, Isaac, Nora and James; sister, Bonita Deeg of Kentucky; and sister-in-law, Suzanne Simpson of Missouri.  He is preceded in death by both parents; brother, James Simpson; and grandson, Joshua Cooper.  Per Phillip's wishes, cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial celebration will be held on a future date. To sign the online guest book or leave a condolence for the family please visit www.CharlesRLux.com.
