Phillip Thering, 67, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017, at his home with his family by his side. A Funeral Mass for Phil will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. Cremation will take place after Mass and his ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery on Friday. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Sacred Heart Parish Hall after Mass. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Isabella County Medical Care Facility, Morey Cancer Center or the wishes of the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church. Phil was born May 18, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, son of Russell and June (Bragg) Thering. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1968 and received his bachelor of arts from Aquinas College. He was employed by Sweeney Seed Company for over 40 years. Some of his favorite pastimes were bowling, golfing and spending time with his family. He was inducted into the Mt. Pleasant Bowlers Hall of Fame and had bowled a perfect game on several occasions. Phil is survived by his mother, June Thering of Mt. Pleasant; special nieces, Melissa VanAlstine of Mt. Pleasant and Jessica (Charlie) Gross of Beal City and their children, Tucker, Easton, and Wyatt VanAlstine and Camren and Kellen Gross; siblings, Dick (Debbie) Thering of Grand Blanc, Barb (Tim) Proos of Bellaire, Jerry (Lynn) Thering of Mt. Pleasant, Mike (Amy) Thering of Pelham, AL, Bob (Kathy) Thering of Mt. Pleasant and Patty Rydahl (Brian Malski) of Clinton Township; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Thering; sisters, Janet Thering and Jackie Heintz; nephew, Kevin Rydahl; niece Abby Lynn Thering; and great-nephew, Gage Thering.
