Phyllis Arlene Woodthorp, 96, of Blanchard, MI passed away Saturday May 27, 2023. She was born Feb 1927 to William and Gertrude Wilson in Linden, MI. She was preceded in death by her brothers Kenneth and Sherwood, and her sisters Eleanor and Winifred. She married Charles Woodthorp June 20, 1947. They were married 72 years before his death. She is survived by her four sons, Walter (Lois) Woodthorp, Jerry (Deb) Woodthorp, Randy (Mary) Woodthorp, Chris (Cindy) Woodthorp, along with 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and nephews Alan and Larry Wilson and great nephew Theron Wilson. Arlene, as she preferred to be called, was a beloved wife and mother. She did work outside the home some of the time but her primary focus was raising her family. She and Charles lived in a small community while he worked as an auto worker. Together they remodeled a home and raised their family. They were both raised on the farm and so living close to the earth was a part of their everyday life. Their huge garden and then canning much of the produce was what provided for themselves and their children. They raised chickens and rabbits, and later cattle and horses. Along with their love of gardening and raising animals they discovered by diligent Bible study, truths from the Bible that become the focus of their lives. They were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses in 1950. Their love of people helped them willing serve in helping others learn things such as, what is God's Kingdom, and living forever free from sin and death on a paradise earth in the future. This knowledge also helped them make many friends all over, and they generously gave of their time and served as volunteers in remodeling and constructing Kingdom Halls all over Michigan. They became well known for their very generous and hospitable spirit. Very often they entertained friends and family, sharing what they had at a moment's notice. Arlene loved to bake bread, pies and cookies. The best around. She also loved to sing. They both will be greatly missed. Phyllis's memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 30, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Brian Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. To sign the online guest book or leave a condolence for the family please visit www.CharlesRLux.com .
