Rachel Cardenas

Rachel Cardenas, 90, of Kalamazoo, and formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, in Kalamazoo. Rachel was born August 22, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan, daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Alvarez) Ceja. She married Joseph Cardenas on February 18, 1967. She retired from Central Michigan University where she worked in dining services. She enjoyed dancing and being social, although nothing meant more to her than her family. She loved them very much, especially her grandchildren. Rachel is survived by two children; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and six siblings. A Funeral Mass for Rachel will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the Mass begins. Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center (attached to Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home). Rachel will be laid to rest beside her husband in Calvary Cemetery following her cremation. Memorial contributions may be made to wishes the family.
