Raleigh Quakenbush, 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at home, surrounded by his family. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m Wednesday, Nov. 17, at Calvary Cemetery with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to . Envelopes are available at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Raleigh was born May 4, 1929, in Flora, IL, the son of the late Jess and Minnie (Schnell) Quakenbush. He married Jean Riechoff on July 29, 1950, in Flora, IL. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Raleigh served from 1951-1953 and was a member of the American Legion and VFW. Since the age of 14 he had been working in the oil and gas industry. He retired in the late 1980s from Baker Oil Tool where he was the Northeast Regional Manager. In retirement he worked as an independent consultant. Some of his favorite pastimes were golfing and playing pool. He enjoyed watching the various sporting events of his grandchildren. Raleigh is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Mark (Heather) Quakenbush of Ithaca, and Bill (Michelle) Quakenbush and Michael (significant other, Monica Tilmann), both of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Brian (Joshelle), Kyle (Jen), Jessica (fiancee, Jason Vautrin), Eric, and Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Jayla Vautrin and Cameron Quakenbush; and his sister, Vivian McKeehan of California. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Dale, and Don Mitchell; and four sisters, Inez Hardy, Anna Cartright, Lillian Miller, and Ada Schlabach.
