Richard C. Figg, 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Green Acres Assisted Living. Richard, one of eight children, was born April 26, 1932, to Gladys (Bush) and Clifford Figg. He grew up on a farm with seven brothers and sisters in Shepherd, Michigan. A 1951 graduate of Shepherd High School, Richard went on to college at Central Michigan University, to earn a teaching degree and play football. It was there he met the love of his life, Betty Jean Horski. Richard and Betty were married on December 24, 1955. They were blessed with four children. In 1960, Richard and Betty purchased Moss Golf Club on the Chippewa River in Mt. Pleasant and renamed it "Riverwood." Riverwood was his dream to make something for families to enjoy. They added the bowling center in 1973 which, to this day, is the only bowling center remaining in the area. In 2020, he purchased "The Pines" golf course at Lake Isabella. The golf courses provided countless jobs for so many over the years. Richard is survived by three children, Marty (Joyce) Figg of Mt. Pleasant, Terri (Bob) Sommerville of Mt. Pleasant, and Cindy (Patrick) Figg-Currier of Austin, TX; six grandchildren, Sherry (Aaron) Moravy-Blizzard, Jeremy (Brandy) Moravy, Haley and John Sommerville, and Kaitland (Kramer) Peak and Mary Currier; five great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Sacha Moravy-Penchansky, Ellieanna and Chadlyn Moravy, and Presley Peak; siblings, Raymond (Laurie) Figg of Punta, Gorda, FL, Gene (Doreen) Figg of Big Rapids, and Nancy (Tom) Leirer of Estero, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty in 2015; son, Douglas in 1993; siblings, Betty Figg-Beisel, Robert Figg, William Figg, Barb Figg-Swan. Richard was a faithful parishioner and supporter of Sacred Heart Parish, giving of his time, talents, and treasures. His life was guided by God and the Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass for Richard will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday, January 12, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski as celebrant and Deacon Jim Damitio as homilist. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery. Everyone is invited to a reception at Riverwood Resort at approximately 12:30 pm. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 11 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to Mass.
