Richard Owen Harris

Richard Owen Harris, 94, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, October 19, 2002 at Central Michigan Community Hospital. Following Richards wishes, he has been cremated and his ashes will be buried in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Central Michigan Community Hospital. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Richard was born Feb. 1, 1908, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Edward Owen and Pearl (Vroman) Harris. He married Mary Race on June 20, 1934, in Winterhaven, Fla. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1925 and attend the University of Michigan, Central State Teachers School, and graduated from Rollins College. He was president of Harris Milling Company where he worked from 1932-1966. He also owned the Cabin Bar from 1967-2002. He was a member of the hospital board at Central Michigan Community Hospital from 1950-1970 and was one of the founders of the first hospital ball. He is survived by five children, Ann (John) Harris Hunnewell of Monrovia, Ca., Edward Owen (Roberta) Harris II of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Mary Jane (Don) Harris Waterhouse of St. Petersburg, Fla., Elizabeth Holmden Harris of Mt. Pleasant, and Richard Race (Grace) Harris of St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, David Holmden (Nancy) Harris of Beaulah; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Harris of Largo, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Race Harris in 1989; his sister, Mary Jane Harris; and one brother, Robert Vroman Harris.
