Richard Floyd Lumbert, 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at Crestwood Village in Mt. Pleasant. Richard was born on October 29, 1938 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan the son of the late Archie and Alice Lumbert. He was the oldest of three boys. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1956. Richard served in Berlin, Germany as a military police officer from 1956 to 1959. His decorations and awards included sharpshooter (rifle), sharpshooter (carbine), marksman (pistol) and army occupation medal (Germany). Richard married Anna May Harless on July 30, 1960, in Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. He worked for 29 years at Dow Chemical as a journeyman pipe fitter and served on the apprenticeship committee. After retirement he drove cars for local dealerships. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman and collector of all things. He loved tending his garden and sharing the abundance of produce with neighbors. His peach trees are all over Mt. Pleasant and beyond. Richard was a keen morel mushroom hunter, loved walking and his candy. He loved caring for animals, telling stories and joked with everyone. Richard is survived by his son, Robert (Mary) Lumbert of Cedar Springs; daughter Lori (Jamie) Gillis of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Brian (Jen) Lumbert, Emily (James) Estkowski, Andrea (Shane) Flachs, Joel (Jayme) Lumbert, Hunter Gillis, and Tiana Gillis; six great grandchildren, sister-in-law Kim Lumbert and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by both parents; his wife Anna May; siblings Larry Lumbert, and Kenneth Lumbert; and granddaughter Angel Sue Gillis. Richard's life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a luncheon will be held in the Lincoln Reception Center (located next to the funeral home). Richard will be laid to rest in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, next to his wife, Anna May. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella County Food with Friends program.
