Born in Isabella County on September 6, 1943 to Wayne and Mildred (Brookens) Lyon, Rick resided in Mt. Pleasant until his graduation from Central Michigan University in 1970. With a bachelors degree in geology, Rick began a lifetime career in the petroleum industry with an emphasis in the design, development, and marketing of drilling tools. He was employed by Smith International in their Houston headquarters at the time of his death. His work career made him a world traveler, having resided in Dallas, TX, Denver, CO, Anchorage, AL, Jakarta, Indonesia, and Houston, TX. We all knew of his passion for golf. However, more important to Rick was his involvement in the Lutheran Church in Kingwood, TX. Rick was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle with a strong dedication to the Lord. His survivors include his two sons, Richard Chip and Leslie Lyon of Denver, CO and their sons, Nicholas and Jack, and Lucca Luke Lyon and his special nanny, Yati of Kingwood, TX; sister, Sandy and Roye Burr of Midland; brothers, Stewart and Pat Lyon of Calif., Larry and Orie Lyon of Illinois, John and his fiancee, Fonda, of Illinois, Bob and Bonny Lyon of Mt. Pleasant and Jim and Kris Lyon of Alma; and several nieces and nephews. Rick was a very loving and compassionate person who was constantly surrounded by a world of friends. He will be forever missed by all those he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Ardith Lyon.
