Richard J. McDonald, 74, of Mt. Pleasant died peacefully Sunday, June 12, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Robert Byrne presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday from 9-10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation or MidMichigan Hospice. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Dick was born Dec. 13, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Fred and Lucille (Thering) McDonald. He married Barbara Render Sept. 9, 1950 at Sacred Heart. He was employed by Michcon for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. In his retirement he worked for Brooks Construction. He was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed gardening, farming, but mostly, spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; two children and their families, Mike McDonald and Anne Varga of Rosebush and their children, Sarah (Nick) Kunik, Joshua McDonald, Janell (Joe) Trapani, all of Mt. Pleasant, Heidi Varga of Phoenix, AZ, and Andrea (Todd) Moore of Anderson, SC; Kathy and Mike Hutchins of Mt. Pleasant and their children, Keith (Jessica Conroy) Hutchins of Shepherd and Jessica Hutchins and Tim Hutchins, both of Mt. Pleasant; four brothers, James (Leona) McDonald, Gerald (Marian) McDonald and Robert (Gail) McDonald, all of Mt. Pleasant and William (Sally) McDonald of Rose Lake; four sisters, Margie (Ron) Stickney of Canadian Lakes, Kathleen Kearney of Washington, MI, Ruth (Chuck) Johnson of Villages, Fla., and Evelyn (Cliff) Schmidt of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister-in-law, Leona McDonald of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law, Daniel Worley of Farwell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John; infant brother, Thomas; and sister, Mary Worley.
