Richard M. Westbrook, 47, of Traverse City passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at his residence. Rick was born on November 26, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant, MI, the son of Richard and Elizabeth (Kenney) Westbrook. Rick attended South Bend Riley High School in South Bend, IN. He later attended St. Josephs College in Rennsaler, IN. After graduating from college Rick worked in the Human Resources field for various companies in Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. He later returned to Mt. Pleasant where he worked for several years before moving to Traverse City. As Ricks family and friends know, he was a very hardworking and dedicated individual who was driven to reach success for the benefit of his entire company and their employees. Rick treated all of his employees with high respect and in return received the admiration and approbation of each and every one of them. It is also well known that Rick would do absolutely anything for family and friends. He was always there when you needed him, ready and willing to give it his all to help anyone through a tough time. Rick was funny, receptive, insightful, and dependable. Rick brought a lot of delight and happiness too many people during his life. Rick was also a great admirer of the outdoors. Some of his favorite activities included hiking with his dog Dash, photography, fishing, and kayaking. Rick is survived by his mother Elizabeth Westbrook of Mt. Pleasant, his father Richard Westbrook of Glassboro, NJ; brothers John Westbrook of Green, OH, Kurt Westbrook of Granger, IN, and Jimmy Westbrook (Bobbie) of Carmel, IN; sister Catherine Kintner (Sam) of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces Shelldon Westbrook, Holly Westbrook, Elliot Westbrook, Sarah Kintner, Claire Kintner, and Eavan Westbrook; nephews Oliver Westbrook, Will Westbrook, and Trevor Westbrook, and many adoring uncles, aunts, and cousins. When we think of Rick let us remember, Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pour through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy. " Eskimo Legend A memorial service will be held for Rick at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation hours beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to one of Ricks favorite organizations, Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS).
