Robert Vincent Brady, known to many as Bob, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 73 on April 28, 2026, at his residence. Born on September 18, 1952, in St. Joseph, Michigan, Bob was the eldest of two children of Eugene Vincent and Doris Jane (Hewitt) Brady.
Bob graduated from Rogers High School in Wyoming, Michigan, in 1970. He pursued higher education at Western Michigan University, earning an Associate's degree and graduating fourth in his class. He furthered his studies at the University of Calgary, where he obtained a Master's degree in 1976. During his time in Canada, he completed an internship teaching Geology.
Bob began his career with Michigan Petroleum Geologists (MPG), drilling oil wells throughout Northern Michigan. He also co-founded an oil company with four colleagues. However, his true passion lay in teaching, leading him to become a professor of Geology and Geography at Central Michigan University and later teaching at Ferris State University.
Bob had a deep love for rocks and geology, and he was known for his detailed knowledge of the Earth and its history. His passion extended to Biblical studies, and he was a devout Catholic, often attending more than one Mass a day throughout the Diocese of Saginaw. Bob had a profound love for Padre Pio and his teachings, inspiring him to be the good Christian man that he was. But above all, Bob loved the Lord and the Earth which He created.
He is survived by his brothers, Thomas (Cynthia) Brady of Hudsonville and Ray Carden of Northern Indiana, and his sister, Linda George of Southern California, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry Brady, and his sister-in-law Jackie Carden.
A Funeral Mass for Bob will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Andy Booms will preside. All are invited to a luncheon at Lincoln Reception Center immediately following. Friends are invited to pay respects to Bob one hour before Mass begins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Parish to assist with funeral expenses.
