John Collins, 91, of Mt. Pleasant and Sun City, FL, passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at South Bay Hospital in Sun City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, January 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Thursday from 2-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Academy Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of the late Leo and Theresa (Kenney) Collins. He married the late Jeanne Hummel on June 7, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church. A veteran of the Army Air Corp, John enlisted in 1941 and became a pilot of a B-17, flying 40 missions over Germany. He was in the 379th Bomb Group and the 526th Squadron. In 1954 he became an insurance agent for Allstate, retiring in 1984. John is survived by three children, William J. (Allison) Collins of Friendswood, TX, Barbara J. (Jerry) Forro of East Tawas, Thomas J. (Ginny) Collins of Longwood, FL; eight grandchildren, Marc (Anne) Collins, Stacie, Brian, Nicole and Christopher Collins, Steven (Sara) Forro and Jessica (Travis) Forro and Teri Collins; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Sophie Collins and Wyatt Forro; two brothers-in-law, Bill Starkey of Winn and Dick Whalen of Apollo Beach, FL; and special friend, Joanne Brand. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne in 1981; and two sisters, Ruth Lau Starkey and Mary Jeanne Whalen.
