Robert Curtiss, 82, of Beal City, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Schnepp Assisted Living in St. Louis. Bob was born September 9, 1941, in Edmore, Michigan, the son of the late Donald and Jessie (Arnold) Curtiss. During his school years, he was a Winn Rockets Hockey Club member. After graduating from Shepherd High School in 1959, Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1968 aboard the USS Sequoia under President Kennedy. He also served aboard the USS New. On August 17, 1963, Bob married Rosemary Schafer at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beal City. He was employed by the Isabella County Road Commission for over 30 years, retiring as foreman. He was elected to the Road Commission Board for 18 years. He enjoyed driving his tractor and tending to his 3-acre garden. Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosemary; three children, Heather Curtiss of Beal City, Gene (Jen) Curtiss of Bryan TX, and Shawn (Dave) Theisen of Beal City; three grandchildren, Daegan Curtiss and Gavin (fiancée Mariah) and Karson Theisen (Lindsey); one great grandson, David James Theisen; two sisters, Barbara (Jim) McMullen of Traverse City and Becky Bellinger of Mt. Pleasant; sister in-law, Diane Curtiss of Dewitt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Jessie Curtiss; brother, Boyd Curtiss; and parents in-law, Paul and Sophie Schafer. A Funeral Mass for Bob will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 12, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church where he was a member. Father Thomas McNamara will preside. Military honors and Rite of Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Beal City Knights of Columbus Hall. The family will receive friends in the gathering room of the church on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. with the Vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Friday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or School. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
