Robert Joseph Neyer, 75, of Mount Pleasant, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at MediLodge in Mt. Pleasant. Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass for Bob will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Donald Henkes as celebrant and Deacon Larry Fussman assisting. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to MediLodge of Mt. Pleasant. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Robert was born at home in Beal City, Michigan, on May 23, 1941, son of the late John J. and Kathleen (Judge) Neyer. Bob displayed an entrepreneurial spirit beginning with boyhood jobs of trapping muskrats and delivering the Times-News. He attended Sacred Heart Academy in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, IL, in 1960. He attended Kendall School of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. Robert was a talented artist and designer. In 1966, he traveled around the world for three months with his good friend John Michael Murphy. Robert joined the Michigan Army National Guard in 1967, based in Alma, MI. Bob lived most of his life in Mt. Pleasant. His work passion was as an independent oil and gas developer and producer. He and his brother Ken and their partner Alvin Hosking built One Energy Place in 1982. Bob enjoyed antique car shows and he collected a few classic automobiles. He also enjoyed buying and selling real estate and owned the Sands Resort Motel in Houghton Lake for 14 years. All through his life Robert was a good friend to many, especially to those that had few. Bob married Ann Van Alst July 4, 1980, at St. Rita-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maple City, MI. The reception was held at their vacation home, The Timbers, in Traverse City. Bob and Ann had a daughter, Natalie, in 1983 and he was extremely proud of her. Robert is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter and son-in-law, Natalie and Richard Schild of Minneapolis, MN; five siblings, Jack (Cora) Neyer of Mt. Pleasant, Rose Marie (the late Jerry) McFarlane of Venice, FL, Ken (Diane) Neyer of Traverse City, Jane (Mike) Bacon of Cheboygan, and Patty (Mike) Gostola of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
