Robert Powell, 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at the Laurels in Mt. Pleasant. Friends may call at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home, 2300 S. Lincoln Rd., on Friday from 5-8 p.m. with the vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. A rosary service, led by the Knights of Columbus, will follow the Vigil. Visitation continues at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the Mass begins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Denis Heames presiding. Following the interment at Calvary Cemetery, the family invites friends to the funeral home for a luncheon and time of fellowship. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 1297. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Bob was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Saginaw, the son of Wilton Babcock and Annabelle Loretta (Horton) Powell. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1958 and later attended Ferris Institute in the early 1960s. He worked for a variety of places including the grounds crew at Central Michigan University, Wentworth IGA, Mid Michigan Industries, and Isabella County Newspaper. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus Council 1297. Some of Bobs favorite pastimes were golfing, collecting sports memorabilia and statistics, and sports of all kinds. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and truly loved spending time with his nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Bob is survived by his sister, Marcia Powell of Comstock Park; brother-in-law, Larry Doyle of Grand Ledge; five nieces and nephews; and four grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilton in 1979, mother, Annabelle in 2006; and sister, Suzanne Marie Doyle in 1982.
