Robert F. Wardrop, 84, of Grand Rapids and formerly of Mt. Pleasant died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007 at Covenant Village of the Great Lakes in Grand Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Lux Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service begins and again at a reception that will begin following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CMU Mathematics Department, CMU Athletic Department, St. Judes Childrens Hospital, or Hospice. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home. Robert was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Malcolm and Margaret (Steere) Wardrop. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1945as an aviator. He received Masters degrees from Central Michigan University and the University of Michigan and an Ed. D. from Indiana University. For 18 years he taught at Mt. Pleasant High School and was head of the Mathematics Department. He served as the Athletic Director for six years and coached basketball and golf. He was also a member of the Mathematics Department at CMU for 14 years and Associate Dean of the School of Art and Science. A well-known athlete, Bobb enjoyed golfing and loved CMU and its athletic program. He was a former club champion at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club and has been inducted into both the Mt. Pleasant High School and CMU Athletic Halls of Fame. In 1988 Bobb moved to Pinehurst, NC and has recently been residing in Grand Rapids. Bobb is survived by his wife, Mary of Pinehurst, NC; five children, Robert (Rae Marie) Wardrop II of Grand Rapids, Rebecca (Richard) Yankle of East Grand Rapids, Michelle (Patrick) Hickey of Rockford, Daniel (Barbara) Wardrop of the Hague, Netherlands, and Thomas Mac (Anna) Wardrop of Grand Rapids; 12 grandchildren; his brother, Daniel Wardrop of Williamsburg, VA; and two sisters, Elvira Harrison of Florida and Mary Elizabeth Winterowd of Carmel, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Malcolm and William.
