Roger Stalter, 68, passed away unexpectedly, June 3, 2023, doing what he loved best, riding his Harley. Born on July 24, 1954, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Roger was the eldest of 9 children born to Ora "Dean" and Aletha "Lee" (Ley) Stalter. Over the years he welcomed his eight siblings into the home, Daniel, Vicky, Jodie, Deana, Tina, Kevin, Marci, and Misty. Roger was an all-state wrestler for Shepherd High School, finishing 3rd in the state in both his junior and senior years. After graduating in 1972, Roger immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged in 1974 as a Specialist 4th Class. Ever the hopeless romantic, Roger was gifted with an abundance of love throughout his lifetime. As such, he was blessed with six children from those relationships: Rob (with Dawn (Recker) Rolston), Josh (with Elaine Stauffer), Taylor (with Catherine Staats), and Mitch, Lace and Shay (with Kelly (Haynak) Edwards). On October 14, 2016, Roger took Shannon McCray as his bride and was married to her until her passing in 2019. Known as a loving and generous man, Roger would literally give the shirt off his back to someone in need. Sarcastically hilarious, Roger was an old-school type of guy. Riding his Harley or working on his classic cars and trucks gave him endless joy. He was a hard worker too, and at one time, had owned and operated Stalter Express for 10 years, hauling produce from the west coast. At the time of his passing, he was employed by MLT Trucking. Roger's smiling face, unique sense of humor, and free spirit will truly be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rob (Erika) Rolston of Mt. Pleasant, Mitch Bailey of Chicago, IL, Lace Stalter of Traverse City, Taylor Stalter of Mt. Pleasant, and Shay (Tristan) Barnes of Lake; grandchildren, Ayla Rolston, Amber (Neil) Horning, Samuel Elmore-Hart, Christian Elmore-Turner, Grayson Couron, and Hudson Barnes; great grandchildren, Emberly Miles and Lakelynn Horning; siblings, Vicky (Fred) Schafer of Beal City, Jodie (Mike) Razdrh of North Carolina, Deana (Tom) Simpson of Macomb, Tina Stalter of Shepherd, Kevin Stalter-Romero of California, Marci (Joe) Faber of Weidman, and Misty (Christopher) Purrett of Chesterfield; sister in-law, Barb Stalter of Shepherd; and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Lee Stalter; son, Josh Stauffer; brother, Dan Stalter; wife, Shannon (McCray) Stalter; and brother in-law, Edgard Romero. On Saturday, July 15, Roger's life (and impending 69th birthday) will be celebrated, beginning at 11 a.m. with a memorial motorcycle-only procession from Shepherd High School (100 E. Hall St.) to The Chosen Ones MC (4772 S. Lake Rd.) in Greenville, where non-riders are welcome to await their arrival around 1 p.m. Military Honors will commence at 2 p.m. and all are encouraged to continue celebrating Roger's life following the honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Envelopes will be available at The Chosen Ones in Greenville or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home.
