Ron Alan Roby was born on August 5, 1953, and passed away on December 29, 2020. He was the son of Shirley Mae (Westmore) Roby and Edward L. Roby. Ron grew up in Johannesburg, Michigan, where his parents ran a palate factory. He graduated from Johannesburg High School in 1971. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in 1975 and went on to the University of Michigan to earn a Master's degree in clinical social work in 1985. A resident of Mt. Pleasant, MI, he worked for many years in human services as a family support coordinator at Central Michigan Community Mental Health. He was a strong advocate for persons with disabilities and their families. His interest and passion for politics led him to serve on Mt. Pleasant City and Isabella County Commission. Ron was known to be a strong supporter of local police and participated in the ride-along program. He served on the Mount Pleasant City Council from 1990-1994 and again from 2001-2004. He served on the Mount Pleasant Historical District Commission from 2006-2010. Ron loved history and spent many years archiving data about Mt Pleasant and his childhood home near Johannesburg. Ron wrote and published a history of Hetherton and published the Isabella County Reader. He was a committed and careful genealogist and often helped friends find their relatives and ancestral history. He was a lifetime member of the Hetherton Reformed Presbyterian church where his parents and grandparents attended. Ron is survived by his sister Terry Randolph of Quincy, Michigan, and his two nephews Doug Hagadorn of Clinton Township, Michigan, and Kevin Hagadorn of Rushsilvania, Ohio, and treasured great nieces and nephews. Mr. Roby had many, many friends who loved his sense of freedom, sense of humor and fine wit. His laugh was contagious. He will be dearly missed.
