Ronald Doerr, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant. A Funeral Mass for Ron will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. with the Vigil beginning at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Ron was born Sept. 19, 1928, in Lansing, son of the late Raymond M. and Eleanor A. (Hundt) Doerr. He graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1946 and worked at Dow Chemical in Midland for several years. On August 5, 1948 he married Lois Simmons at Sacred Heart Church. They lived in Midland for 11 years and in 1959 moved to Mt. Pleasant. In 1969 he became the owner of Doerr Heating and Air Conditioning and operated it until his retirement in 1993. In his retirement, he and Lois wintered in Largo, FL for many years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish where he ushered for many years. He was also an avid bowler and was elected to the Mt. Pleasant Bowling Hall of Fame. Ron is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lois; five children, Stephen (Lyn) Doerr of Holt, Lynette (Brian) Barker of Kyle, TX, Charlene (Steven) Letson of Beaverton, OR, Kevin (Sue) Doerr of Durham, NC, and Holly (James) Verwey of Beaverton, OR; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer) Doerr of Haslett, Tiffany Barker of Kyle, TX, Stephanie Letson of Portland, OR, Sean (Jennifer) Letson of Portland OR, Aaron Doerr of Raleigh, NC and Lauryn Doerr of Durham, NC, and Sydney and Case Verwey of Beaverton, OR; six great-grandchildren, Sylvia Doerr, Cabal Doerr, Max Doerr, Carley Doerr, Elle Letson, and Jude Letson; and one brother, Willard (Mary) Doerr of Daytona Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Linda Doerr of Mt. Pleasant; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Doerr; two brothers, Kenneth and Edward Doerr; and three sisters, Jeanne Merritt, Carole DeLong and Alice Recker.
