Ronnel Dean Deeg

Major USAF (Ret.) age 87 of Mt. Pleasant, passed into Christ's victory on December 4, 2021, peacefully at Stone Lodge Memory Care, Shepherd Michigan surrounded by his family and his devoted caregivers. Services will be held Friday December 10 ^th at 1:00pm at Zion Lutheran Church LCMS, 3401 E. River Road Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Jonathan Bakker and Rev. Garrick Beckett officiating. Visitation will be available for one hour before the service, beginning at noon. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant immediately following the service. Ron was born on January 6 ^th , 1934, in Bay Port Michigan, the son of Herbert and Esther (Janke) Deeg and was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kilmanagh MI. Ron graduated from Bay Port High School as class salutatorian and as an Eagle Scout. A lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Ron enjoyed sharing the love of Christ with others, and volunteering for many church-related activities, construction projects, and service efforts. Ron and his wife Lorraine (Tuttle) were married in 1957, and enjoyed many years of adventures, volunteering, and extensive travel together along with their two children. As a member of the United States Air Force, Ron entered active duty in 1956 as a Cadet, with pilot and navigator training. He served for 21 years, with assignments in several US states, as well as Germany, Spain, Korea, and Vietnam. Ron retired from the US Air Force in 1976 at the rank of Major. Ron attended Bay City Junior College, Lansing Community College, the University of Maryland, and Central Michigan University. He was a devoted educator to students in the construction trades and in woodcraft. His teaching career included courses at Mid-Michigan Community College, Shepherd Community Schools, and CMU. He continued his career in the building trades as a building & operations manager for Pickard Industrial Park / Commerce Center. Ron's many other occupations, hobbies and activities included photography, flying private aircraft, construction, woodcarving, designing & building furniture, landscaping, instrumental & choral music, mentoring after-school programs, stained glass, fluency in German language, the Amway Corporation, Rotary International, Air Force Association, Mt Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, Yankee Air Force Association, Wurtsmith Air Museum, and the volunteer efforts of the Mid-Michigan Woodcrafters Association. Ron is survived by his wife Lorraine Elizabeth (Tuttle) Deeg; children, Rhonda Deeg of Indiana, and Lohren Deeg of Indiana; granddaughter Kristina (Dana); and great-grandchildren Tristan and Torin Deeg-Detoro of Kentucky. Ron is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; sister Donna (Deeg) Deming; brother-in-law Albert Deming Jr.; and nephew Dean Deming.
