Rowena Jane Allen

Rowena Allen, 85, of Weidman, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at her home. Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Weidman Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Randy Owens officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery in Weidman with a luncheon to conclude at the Weidman Community Center. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Weidman Church of the Nazarene, 3011 N. School Rd. Weidman MI 48893. Envelopes will be available at the church or at Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home. Rowena was born March 5, 1932, in Perry, MI, daughter of the late James Leslie and Hazel V. (Cole) Noe. After graduating from Perry High School, she attended and received an associates degree from Spring Arbor Junior College (now Spring Arbor University). She was employed by Consumers Power for five years following graduation from college. She married Ivan D. Allen in 1953 and together had four children: Ivania, Thomas and twins, Geoff and Greg. Ivan and Rowena moved from St. Louis MI to Weidman in 1957 where Ivan and his father started Allen Lumber Co. Rowena worked as the bookkeeper for Allen Lumber for many years and was the sole owner for the five years following Ivans death in 1975. Rowena had been an active member of the Weidman Church of the Nazarene since its beginning in 1964. She and her husband donated the land where the present church sets and he was instrumental in building the church. Rowena is survived by two sons, Geoff (Elvie) Allen of Phoenix, AZ and Greg Allen of Weidman; three grandchildren, Reny, Denny, and Edlyn; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister, Mona Richardson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hazel Noe; husband, Ivan Allen; daughter, Ivania Allen; and infant son, Thomas.
