Russell Lee Smith

Smith, 75, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, August 20, 2010, at Central Michigan Community Hospital. His funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 25, at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral Home with Deacon Larry Fussman officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family. Russ was born July 22, 1935, in Kinniconick, KY, the son of the late Richard and Laura (Rickett) Smith. He married Joanne VanOrden on June 22, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant. Russ served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He worked at Giant Supermarket where he retired after 30 years. He loved his home he built and his dogs. He also enjoyed the outdoors and his TV. Russ was a great husband, dad and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife Joanne; one son, Steven Smith of Mt. Pleasant; three daughters, Karen (Michael) Altherr of Alaska, Patty (Dan) Tatro of Blanchard and Connie (Greig) Peacock of Winn; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Smith and Laura Neff; one daughter, Charlotte Ann Smith; and one brother, William Hack Smith.
